BTS: Our Debut Collection

A love letter by Founder, Rachael Armstrong

I am sure every small business owner has a major ‘pinch me’ moment when they are preparing to launch. For me, it was the campaign shoot for our debut collection. Coming from a fashion and marketing background, I have orchestrated many photoshoots, but nothing will ever compare to this day.
Armed with some of the most incredible creatives behind me, I have never felt so confident going into a shoot. I kept waiting for the nerves or self-doubt to arise; but was completely relaxed. If you whole-heartedly trust your suppliers to do what they do best, your vision will come to life.
Styling
The beautiful Jess Harpley executed the brief perfectly. I wanted the styling to reflect the product; modern day classics. The wardrobe was a fantastic blend of masculine pieces layered with feminine vintage finds, resulting in a sexy sophistication. It was important to me to create a striking final look, using elements that still allowed the shoes to be the hero.
Hair and Makeup
One of the most prolific makeup artists in Brisbane *pardon me* Australia, Penny Antuar’s reputation precedes her. The brief for the shoot was not the atypical ‘bronzed goddess’ look, and she was an obvious choice as someone who is not afraid to push the boundaries. With a canvas as stunning as Ondine, we wanted to accentuate her natural beauty with glossy jelly skin, barely-there brows and flushed cheeks to highlight her porcelain skin.
Photography
When it came to selecting a photographer, Elizabeth Maleevsky was an obvious choice. Not only did she come highly recommended as a dream to work with, but her photography style echoed my own. With an incredibly modern eye, she captures images with fantastic precision, consistently framed to perfection. Delivering high fashion, editorial imagery that aligned ever so perfectly with the brief (all with a furry assistant under one arm, whether she liked it or not).
I am a firm believer that many hands make light work, and this shoot is a testament to that. Thank you to all the amazing suppliers for making my dream come true.
